Full Bio

Gamma Like Very Ultra are an avant-rock band from Tuscon, Arizona. The group formed in 2006 as a found sound / melodic noise collaboration between Joseph De La Rosa & Christine Heinisch to combine found sound and electronic noise effects with live instrumentation. Joe plays bass and assembles tape collages, while Christine, formerly of Chicago dark cabaret / chamber punk group Apartment, is an electronic musician in her own right. The group now includes composer Ariella Lake of Apartment. Ariella is a long time friend and collaborator of the group, who plays the guitar. With their full line-up, the band is moving into new territory.

Apart from creating incredible sound textures and reckless ditties, Gamma Like Very Ultra are interested in the ABC's of everything, not only sound. Pants. Shoelaces. Broken fingers. The incredible & the mundane. The perfect chord. The ABC's of experience, let's say. While devoted & passionate about their music, they don't take it, or themselves, all that seriously. How can you? After all, we're all just passing through.

With influences as diverse as Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention to the Meat Puppets, with a little bit of CAN & the Minutemen thrown in for good measure, Gamma Like Very Ultra is making a name for themselves within the Tucson experimental rock scene. Fans of Captain Beefheart, Neu!, & Sonic Youth will find much of interest in these sounds. The group performs around the Tucson scene when time permits and have begun to release its own music via their hands-on FaceTrain label, with "Silhouettes in Velvet" a series of tape noise recordings mixed with live instrumental sounds, being the first of a limited edition run of releases. The band are presently recording a full length avant-rock album, tentatively titled "Adventure Land: An Assortment of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables".
